Development of a set of small HF-beacons with low power consumption for the detection of the beacon's position. This equipment serves as a monitor of moorings and buoys and enables the retrieval of systems in case of loss.
Development of a "Smart Sensor" concept. The prototype will be a high precision temperature compensated pressure sensor. By adaption of a suitable standard (e.g. IEEE Std 1451P) SiS works on the leading edge of technology in close cooperation with international movements towards standardized underwater "plug-and-work systems".
Analysis and practical assessment of data-communication systems, including satellite systems. This analysis is the basics for the follow-on activities leading to components of a worldwide operating ocean observing system.
