Here we present time series of screenshots from the coastal surveillance
radar on the tower of Büsum Port Control.
The image and animation above shows the radar display as configured by
the operator at the designated date and time. The radar station is
in the center and the thick green structures stretching to the right are
the radar reflections of groins and dams of the port and its entry.
The Wadden Sea and open North Sea are displayed in the lower half of
the image whereas the port area is located behind and to the right
of the screen's centre. On the right side of the radar display a variety
of configuration and target data are overlaid. As the radar is not transmitting
over the town and adjacent land areas no reflections are visible on the upper
sectors of the screen.
Several ships and boats can be identified as radar targets. Nowadays larger
vessels have to be equipped with Automatic Identification Systems (AIS)
which transmit for instance name, positions,
course and speed data to the control station. Such vessels are marked
by small triangles drawn around the reflection spots.
Please use the navigation buttons and functionalities to zoom into the
images and resolve a lot more details. We usually show several screenshots
as time series which can be scrolled by
the selector box and buttons on the top right of this page.
Please note also that image series may differ considerably as
the radar system provides a large variety of configurations and display
settings for the operators.
